Two towel quotes that look similar on paper can represent very different products. Comparing suppliers properly means putting every quote through the same checklist — not just comparing the bottom-line price.
What Changes the Answer
What matters most depends on what you are sourcing for. A hotel program cares most about durability under commercial laundering. A retail program cares more about feel and packaging presentation. A distributor cares most about reorder consistency. Weight the checklist below toward whichever of these matches your use case.
The Comparison Checklist
Put every quote you are considering through these 14 criteria before comparing price:
GSM
The stated weight — but check the tolerance too, not just the headline number.
GSM Tolerance
How much the actual output may vary from the stated GSM.
Fibre / Yarn Type
Combed, ring-spun or low-twist construction affects feel and durability at the same GSM.
Dimensions
Confirm the exact finished size, not just a category name.
Shrinkage
Expected shrinkage after washing, ideally tested rather than assumed.
Colourfastness
Resistance to fading or bleeding across repeated washes.
Absorbency
How quickly and how much the towel actually absorbs.
Sample Quality
Does the pre-production sample genuinely represent what bulk production will deliver.
QC Process
What is actually checked, and when, before a shipment leaves.
MOQ
Minimum order size, and whether it matches your actual need.
Lead Time
A stated timeline for your specific order size, not a generic estimate.
Shipping Terms
Who arranges and pays for freight from factory to destination.
Packaging
Bulk packing, retail-ready packaging, or custom cartons.
Reorder Consistency
Whether a second order can be reasonably expected to match the first.
Where This Doesn't Apply
The lowest price is not automatically the worst choice, and the highest price is not automatically the best. Once two quotes genuinely match on all 14 criteria, price becomes a fair basis for comparison — the checklist exists to get you to that point, not to replace a price decision entirely.
Cotelle's Approach to Being Compared
Cotelle's specification-first process exists specifically so a quote can be checked against this list: GSM and tolerance are confirmed at the specification stage, samples are approved before bulk production, and QC checkpoints are agreed in advance rather than left undefined.
